Vanilla Beane, DC’s famous ‘Hat Lady,’ dies at 103

For some fifty years, Vanilla Beane’s custom-made hats were favorites among Washingtonians like civil rights leader Dorothy Height. She was inducted into the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers Hall of Fame and continued to work well past her 100th birthday.
